ECNP meeting marathon - Nice 2012

March is one of ECNP’s busiest months, with three major meetings back to back over five days in Nice, France.

The ECNP Workshop is the College’s educational vehicle for young researchers in basic science, and provides 100 PhDs and postdocs in neuropsychopharmacology the chance to participate in three days of focused instruction and exchange, fully funded by ECNP.

The Consultation Meeting brings together 50 key representatives from academia, industry and the regulatory authorities, this year around the theme of “Schizophrenia and cognition: Relation, assessment and treatment aspects.”

The European Medicine Agency’s CNS Working Party is a chance to interact with Europe’s central medicines regulator. More on the output of these important meetings will follow in the next issue of ECNP Matters.

Congress Corner: 25th ECNP Congress, 13-17 October 2012, Vienna, Austria

Full speed ahead...

Now that we’re on the sunny side of the mid-March deadlines, the office is fairly crackling with energy, getting ready to take on the impressive stream of input that has flooded in from the ECNP community.

This year’s crop of brainstorming proposals is being prepared for review, and the Young Scientists Award symposium is nearing completion.

In the midst of all this activity, the members of the Scientific Advisory Panels (SAP) 2012-2014 have been officially confirmed, just in time to help review the over 500 papers that were submitted for poster presentation this year.

For a one-page overview of the provisional scientific programme, take a look at our congress-at-a-glance.

new! Extra scientific cafés

Vienna is famous for its cafés. This year, we will be expanding the scientific café model, long used after our pre-clinical symposia, into several new topic areas.

The cafés will meet on Sunday evening (14 October) and are designed to allow attendees to meet colleagues in their specialty area, share perspectives and network – over a cup of coffee.

More on the content and organisation of the scientific cafés will be announced in the coming months. Stay tuned...

ECNP School of Child and Adolescent Neuropsychopharmacology 2012 – a success story

The first ECNP School of Child and Adolescent Neuropsychopharmacology, held from 19-24 February 2012 in Venice, Italy, was a highly successful debut for this new ECNP meeting.

Borrowing from the intensive, five-day format of the Oxford school, the meeting attracted 47 young child and adolescent psychiatrist from 28 European countries. Eighteen plenary lectures and nine workshops gave participants the chance to hear presentations on hot topics and discuss complex clinical cases. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with participants commenting enthusiastically about the opportunities to interact with faculty, intensify their clinical, evidence-based knowledge, and make new friends.

For those who were unable to attend, we have compiled a short video of visual impressions for you to enjoy until we return to Venice for the next Child and Adolescent School in 2014.
